The North Coast of Zealand, Denmark, is a fantastic location to fly fish for sea trout as well as an assortment of seasonal species. Though challenging, the pursuit of coastal trout is highly rewarding. With our expert guides, you will learn about the tactics necessary to succeed in the pursuit of coastal fly fishing, like fly selection, understanding the weather conditions, and sea trout behavior.
Sea Trout (Salmo Trutta Trutta)
Season: Can be caught year round, though Spring and Autumn are the best times. Winter is challenging but rewarding.
Atlantic Cod (Gadus Morhua)
Season: Winter and spring are best. For summer fly fishing for cod and related species. Cod fishing regulations in Denmark are subject to change.
Garfish (Belone Belone)
Season: Late April and May offer active fishing for garfish. An underappreciated species that is suitable for novice anglers!
Mackerel (Scomber scombrus)
Season: August will see swarms of mackerel arriving in Danish waters. They fight hard!
Your booking includes 8 hours of guiding per day, as well as transport. This schedule is flexible and can be arranged with us upon contact. Weather and other conditions will impact the specific timeline of the fishing days.
We can always provide fly tackle for one person. We do not provide waders.
Only one fly is included per person per day. Each fly after that costs €2, which you can settle at the end of the trip. Lunch is not included. (Why?)
We run our fly fishing guiding services on the North Coast of the island of Zealand, Denmark, close to Copenhagen. We recommend that you book flights to Copenhagen Kastrup Airport (CPH).
We recommend to book an Airbnb accommodation in Hillerød or Gilleje. This location is central, making it easier for the guide to take you to different areas along the coast. If you need to check in to your Airbnb before we start fishing, the guide can take you there first.
You'll need to bring:
- Sunglasses
- Hat
- Waders, wading boots, and rain/wading jacket
- Warm layers
- A #6-7 fly rod, reel, and a fly line
- A water bottle
- Lunch/snacks
- Flies are optional to bring because our guide can provide them. See "what's included" section above.
Q: Do I need to bring my waders?
A: Yes, your wading equipment will be needed. Expect to wade on sandy and rocky bottoms.
Q: Is tipping expected?
A: There is no expectation of tipping, and you can always show appreciation by leaving us a review or referring us to other anglers! However, our guides do gratefully accept tips. All tip proceeds go to your guide.
Q: How difficult is the fishing?
A: Targeting sea trout is suitable for most intermediate/advanced fly anglers, but will likely be challenging for a beginner. However, garfish in May and mackerel in late summer are good species for beginners. If you wish for a similar experience but are new to fly fishing, book with us for saltwater fly fishing in Norway, where you will have a beginner friendly experience with more success.
Testimonials
Andreas is probably the most enthusiastic fly fisherman you could find. He knows all about the northern part of Zealand and knows exactly where the fish are. Besides being a fantastic angler, he is a great guy and always has a funny story to tell about nothing and everything. Would highly recommend a guided trip with him!
I had a class couple of days chasing seatrout and garfish on the Danish coast with Learn The Land. Cord, the guide, really knows his stuff, but it didn't feel like a guided trip, it was more like fishing with a mate who's really knowledgeable and also a good teacher.
I booked this trip on a complete last minute whim as I had seen cheap flights from Ireland. Lucas from Learn the land went over the top to accommodate and work out the finer details of the trip. It's easy to organize, really flexible, and great value for the experience. If you're into fly fishing and want to see a stunning bit of the world, definitely give these lads a shout. I would definitely book with them again.
Despite difficult conditions in northern Denmark, I couldn’t have had a better time. Cord is a fantastic guide and my entire experience with LTL was overwhelmingly positive. Managed to bag a bar of silver in the end which was a bonus. Huge thank you!
