Saltwater Fly Fishing Guiding in Kristiansand, Norway

From June to August, the Southern coast of Norway offers an incredible opportunity to experience saltwater fly fishing for species like pollack, cod, sea trout, mackerel, and wrasse.

In this privately guided experience, we will explore the rugged coastline for diverse fishing opportunities, like hunting the rocky marks for pollack and cod (which can reach up to ~5 kg.) and sight fishing fickle sea trout from elevated vantage points. The fishing action is fast-paced and you can typically anticipate productive and memorable fishing days.

What's Included?

This private experience includes expert guiding suitable for all skill levels. Up to 2 #7 fly rods can be loaned at no additional cost. Flies are not included- check our blogs to see what flies to bring and how to tie them, or you can simply buy them as you go from the guide for 2 euros each.

If you have never fly fished before, you will learn the basics of casting and fighting fish, while seasoned anglers can refine their presentation and tactics for targeting a wide range of new species. For 9 hour bookings, a simple lunch is included.

Accessibility and Conditions Note

Note that this style of fishing often involves walking off trail, some degree of climbing/walking on rocks, uneven terrain, and exposure to the elements. We rarely cancel this due to weather conditions, and do our best to adjust the location and tactics to avoid difficulty in the case of high wind. Not all weather conditions are comfortable, but it is only rarely unfishable during the summer. The terrain and conditions do not present an issue to most guests, but if you have mobility issues it is possible that it could impact your ability to participate.

We run our fly fishing guiding services in and around Kristiansand, Norway. The airport of reference for the area is Kristiansand Kjevik Airport (KRS). The city lies 20 minutes from the airport via bus or taxi.

Your booking officially includes 6 or 9 hours of guiding per day, as selected when booking. The default meeting point is Kvitefjellveien 7, 4625 Flekkerøy, Norway, only 20 minutes by bus from Kristiansand city center. The standard morning meeting time is at 9:00 AM, or 10:00 on Sundays. Standard meeting times are at 15:30, or 16:30 on Sundays.

Other similarly accessible meeting points may also be used at the guide's discretion, due to factors like weather and fishing conditions. Note that a brief walk from your meeting point will be necessary to reach fishing spots.

Pollack (Pollachius Pollachius)

Our staple fly fishing species- abundant, hard fighting, and tasty. A trophy fish from shore in our area would be roughly 5 kilos.

Atlantic Cod (Gadus Morhua)

The Atlantic cod grows to similar sizes as the pollack, though not as abundant. Otherwise, these species have a lot in common, from their size to their preferences.

Sea Trout (Salmo Trutta Trutta)

Schools of sea trout will often appear in the gin clear water below, presenting an exciting and challenging opportunity for sight fishing that will push your skills to the limit!

Ballan Wrasse (Labrus bergylta)

The ballan wrasse is mostly caught on rough days in pollock spots. You'll think you hooked into a fish 3 times their size!

Cuckoo Wrasse (Labrus mixtus)

The male cuckoo wrasse is stunningly beautiful, featuring a mixture of blue, black, and orange.

Mackerel (Scomber scombrus)

Present in large schools in the later summer, the mackerel swarm will sporadically appear, causing a frenzy of intense fights.

More species are present, but we focus on these.

Q: Do I need to bring my waders?

A: We do not do any wading for this experience, so you can leave your wading gear at home.

Q: What should I bring?

A: We recommend that you bring solid footwear, weather-appropriate clothing, a water bottle, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Be ready to walk on rugged terrain or for the possibility of wet weather. Please be aware that it can sometimes be colder here than you may expect in the summer, on days with high winds, rain, little sun, and/or lower temperatures

Q: Is tipping expected?

A: Tipping is appreciated but not expected, though we also appreciate reviews and referrals! All tipping proceeds belong fully to the guides.

Q: How difficult is the fishing?

A: With our skilled guide at your side, it is fairly beginner friendly, and we can accommodate all skill levels assuming a learning mindset. However, some species and conditions are more skill demanding than others. The fishing is generally very fast paced, but it can occasionally slow down.

Please bring the following items:

• Appropriate outdoor footwear (e.g hiking boots)
• Sunscreen, hat, and ideally sunglasses
• Clothing appropriate for the weather conditions- such as rain jacket, fleece, or sun hoodie.
• Long pants and socks to tuck them into are recommended in case of ticks.
• Water bottle
• Flies, if you wish to bring your own.
